Burggarten

Burggarten (Palace Gardens) became public in 1919. Here you'll find many memorials to many famous people, such as to Mozart, Emperor Francis I (Maria Theresa’s husband) and Emperor Francis Joseph. There’s also a lovely greenhouse (see photo) with exotic plants.

The Prater

If you still have some childish desires left inside you, you might well enjoy the amusement park at the Prater. If not, at least have a ride on the Ferris Wheel and enjoy the panoramic view. Afterwards enjoy a leisurely walk in the park itself, especially on a warm summer day. Pick a spot on the grass somewhere in the shade, or have a seat on the terrace of a pub and take in the pleasant surroundings.

Rathauspark

This Rathauspark features a line of statues on either side of the avenue that divide it in two. An array of fountains and benches are scattered throughout the leafy grounds. Open-air concerts are held here in the summer and Christmas Markets in the winter. Many monuments and fountains spot the park. The beautiful hotel Austria Trend Hotel Rathauspark, which faces the Rathauspark, is the former city mansion of Viennese author Stefan Zweig.

Volksgarte

In this public park you can find the monument of Franz Grillparzer (a poet), the sculpture was made by Rudolph Weyr, Karl Kundmann and Karl Hasenauer in 1889. Also worth seeing is the Temple of Theseus, an imitation of the Temple of Hephaestus in Athens, built between 1820 and 1823 by Peter Nobile. Inside the temple there used to be the "Group of Theseus" by Antonio Canova (now in the Museum of Fine Arts).

Japanese Garden

In the 19th District, there is a lovely Japanese garden called the Setagaya Park, which was designed by a landscape gardener named Ken Nakajima from Japan in 1992. The Setagaya Park beautifully replicates a Japanese landscape with a ponds and streams, stone structures, and densely-planted vegetation typical of Japanese gardens. The large central pond even has live Japanese goldfish and water lilies.
