Lifestyle Rathauspark
The Rathaus is one of the Vienna’s major monuments. It offices the City Council and the Mayor. The building, designed by the Austrian Friedrich Von Schmidt, was built between 1872 and 1883. Designed in a neo-Gothic style inspired by the Brussels Town Hall, Vienna’s Rathaus is an impressive building with a high belfry of nearly 98 meters on top of which is the Rathausmann (iron man), a symbol for the city.
The Rathaus is a meeting place for all Viennese people, be it summer or winter. When weather permits, small tables cover the area where tourists can enjoy Austrian specialties and international cuisine. The atmosphere is very friendly and convivial.
After dark, the city takes on a special nocturnal glow. You can attend classical music concerts or have a coffee in a café (Viennese of course!). It’s easy to let your imagination go and think about all the world-famous Austrian composers who continue to haunt the Vienna nights, as well as those fabulous balls that take place in Vienna every year.
On the Rathaus Square, Vienna’s largest Christmas market is set up during the month of December. It dates back to 1975.
